Maths
We have maths lessons every day, usually for an hour or more. These are made up of group instruction time, games, practice time and discussion. We spend a lot of time working on patterns (in shape, numbers etc), place value, and strategies for mental addition and subtraction. We also introduce times tables at this stage. We do this through song, and aim for the students to be able to recite, or sing, all of the times tables by the end of the year. The next step is o be able to answer random times tables questions. We also study money, time, chance and data, mapping and much more. We use the SACSA maths curriculum and First Steps Maths as a basis for our learning.
