Reading levels 15+

Level 15+
The Books
  • A variety of text types are found. Eg. Poems, non fiction, songs, plays, stories.
  •  Pictures support the text less.
  • Many words.
  • The text is becoming smaller.
The Learning Points
  •  Fluency and expression are developing.
  •  Punctuation is being attended to.
  •  Reading is becoming purposeful and automatic.
  •  Children can predict and self correct to maintain meaning.
  • Children are becoming able to break words into syllables and find smaller words inside large words.
  •  Finger pointing is being replaced with ‘eye pointing’
Helping your child
  • Read with your child regularly.
  •   Encourage your child to re-read certain parts to develop fluency.
  •   Encourage children to experiment with expression. Show them how to read with expression.
  •  Continue to encourage children to attempt unknown words.
  • Discuss the book after reading. Eg who, what, where, contents page, index, interesting facts, chapter headings.

CHILDREN WILL BE READING FOR INFORMATION AND PLEASURE AT THIS STAGE. :)
