A blog to keep you up to date with what's happening in our class

Term 3

July13

Hi, I hope you’re all enjoying your holidays!

I have had a busy time, attending a 2 day Computers in Education conference last week and a yesterday attending a 1 day course on the new Australian Curriculum. Of course, these have given me loads of food for thought, which sees me at school today trying to implement some of the ideas I gained.

One of the areas that we will be exploring this term is in relation to Web 2.0 tools. Many classes in South Australia and around the world are already using these extensively. We will be using them for our e-portfolios, which we will sharing with you in term 4. To get an idea of the kinds of things we will be doing go to the new page called ‘Web2.0’ in this blog. I’ll also send out a paper note on this with room for you to opt out. In this case your child will be participating in similar activities, but through other programmes like Word and Publisher (so without the wow factor that really engages children).

Please visit our homework page as this has been updated and includes important information for term 3. The brainteaser page also has a new link to a daily maths puzzle.

I have also registered our class to use smartkiddies.com.au which has many maths activities. Your child should bring home log on instructions next week.

Where’s Mrs Bryan?…and brain teaser update.

May21

As you probably know from your children, I am at home this week and next looking after Keeley, who is recovering from foot surgery. Man, it makes you realise just how much we rely on being able to move around easily for day to day living!!

Be assured that there is no rest for the wicked, (that’s an idiom kids,)  I am also doing lots of school work… in amongst being at Keeley’s beck and call; making a dress for her to wear to a school formal, (didn’t know I was a dress maker did you? – neither did I!!!!); and hosting Madii’s 18th birthday party at our place last weekend.

Anyway, finally, and due to popular demand, I have updated the Brain teaser page, with a new problem, and a new link to keep you going till the next update 🙂

I’m looking forward to getting back to the classroom and will see you next  Monday week!

Zimmer Twins is a great site for making simple animated video stories. you can create your own story or use one of the ‘cliff hanger’ starters. You simply drag and drop to select characters, settings, actions and emotions. You can also type into the conversation bubbles.

For great online logic puzzles visit the following website: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/
It will keep you thinking for hours if you let it!

Thanks to ‘Free Technology for Teachers’ for these great sites.
